Christmas for Critters
By Rula Sinara
I’m willing to bet that many of you out there have pets who you couldn’t imagine life without. Or if you don’t have an indoor pet, perhaps you’re one of those kind hearted individuals who donates to animal shelters or wildlife organizations or keeps birdfeeders in your yard stocked all winter. Let me tell you from personal experience that—if you thought they looked nice on holiday cards—the sight of a bright red cardinal perched on a snow covered evergreen tree outside your window is absolutely breathtaking.
That’s the kind of scene you’ll find in Christmas Town, Maine, the fictional small town in A Heartwarming Christmas—a place where the traditions of giving, caring, family and love flourish all year long. Actually, 12 authors and 12 Christmas-inspired stories really do make for a year supply of sweet holiday romances! And Christmas Town isn’t just about the characters who bring it to life, it’s also about the animals who make it real. Animals like the dogs who romp through the snow with their loyal owners or the cats who think tree ornaments were the best toys ever invented…or the wildlife that survives winters in Reindeer Meadow or the woods around town.
Whether pets, strays or wildlife, animals need a little help and Christmas magic too. The people of Christmas Town are the kind who’ll come together to help critters in need. They’ll rally for a cause, donate food and supplies, heal the injured or even adopt a pet into a forever home. It’s not that they don’t have their own struggles or heartache to overcome. They do! But a great way to heal a heart is to be generous and kind. My child’s school (in real life ;) not only has food drives during the holidays, they also collect supplies for our local animal shelter. It’s never too early to plan Christmas shopping, right? This year, in the heartwarming spirit of Christmas Town—a place that’ll have you thinking, I want to live there!—add some Christmas for critters to your list J. It’ll fill your holiday with magic.

Love your post, Rula!
Having heard of your exploits with chickens and the desire to write a story about a rescue for years, I'm happy to have read this story!
I love your story in A Heartwarming Christmas!
LOVE the idea of giving for shelters during the holidays. Never occurred to me before. :) Yay animals! And yay, Rula. <3
Liz - Thank you! I loved writing it!
Mel - One of these days I'll write a romance where chickens play a big role lol. I actually do have a chicken appear in my third Harlequin Heartwarming due out in May (if the scene stays...it's still in editing)! Couldn't resist lol. ;)
Pat - Thanks! I managed to read the entire anthology and loved all the stories! :)
Anna - I need to install a cat door on my garage door. I keep it cracked enough for cats (we have a semi-feral that pretty much lives in the garage in winter) to have shelter in harsh weather. Of course, many critters come by, such as cute field mice (they really are cute), the opossum who greeted me when I opened the laundry room door (kinda surprised me) and the fox tracks we saw in the snow leading in and out once. Can you see why I wanted to write this story lol? :)
And thanks for hosting me at Get Cozy, Nicole!
