The Trouble with Parris (Grey River 7) by @Maiadylanauthor #eroticromance #shifter

Faced with her own mortality, Parris Church seeks out one of the only people in the world she can trust. Before Parris can get to her, the seizures that have been plaguing force her into hiding.

Jase and Rhys Wilson find a woman hurt and hiding behind their garden shed. Then their day gets a little strange. It turns out that she’s their mate, on the run from a mad man, and suffering from a medical condition she’s not interested in talking about. Despite her belief that there is no future for the three of them, Jase and Rhys are determined to give her a reason to live.

When they are finally given a solution that might help, Parris is followed to Grey River by a friend in need and an enemy with revenge in mind. Parris, Jase, and Rhys must deal with both if they're going to have any chance of a future.

EXCERPT - PG13
“Parris, can you hear me?” Dr. Carson’s tone was calm and unhurried. “I need you to open your eyes and talk to me.”
Parris pushed aside nausea and pain and opened her eyes farther. She blinked rapidly to clear her gaze and slowly brought the doctor’s face into focus.
“That’s it, come on back to us, sweetness.”
Parris turned her head slightly and caught sight of Jase and Rhys standing close to her bed on the opposite side to the doctor. They stood with mirrored expressions of concern mixed with relief, no doubt from seeing her awake.
“Parris?”
She turned back toward the doctor, thankful that the room was no longer spinning as fast as it had been moments before.
“Tell me how you feel?”
Parris sighed. “Other than a headache that could quite potentially put a hippopotamus on its ass, I’m just peachy.”
Chris grinned as he shone a small penlight into her eyes. She winced at the twinge of pain the light caused but froze at the sound of growling that echoed against the walls of her hospital room. Chris winked at her before he lifted his gaze to the two men growling—fucking growling—from the opposite side of the bed. “Ignore these two, they just don’t like the fact that you’re in pain.”
“No fucking kidding,” Rhys snarled, and there was a distinct distortion to his voice.
Again Parris found herself wondering what in the hell they were. And if Rhys and Jase were both telepathic and had powers that had their eyes changing colors, then perhaps Chris Carson did too. Melaina had told her she could trust everyone here and that they had nothing but her safety and best interests in mind, but did she know they were kinda possessed?
“You’ve had another seizure,” Chris informed her, and Parris knew it was a result of her using her powers. “You had a pretty severe nose bleed, that I figure was triggered by the blood vessel that was damaged during the seizure itself. Now, you need to make a decision, Parris. We’ve talked about this in private since I admitted you a week ago, and without any further incidents, I haven’t pushed you to let Rhys and Jase in on what is going on with you. However, this last seizure was a doozy, and without Melaina here, you are going to need the support I know these two growling knuckleheads can give you but only if you are open and truthful with each other.”
Chris looked up at stared pointedly at Rhys and Jase. “And only if all of you are open and honest with each other. That means you two bastards are going to have to man up and tell this woman what she needs to know. Now, I’m going to head out and grab some of the test results I’ve been waiting on. I will be back here in about fifteen minutes.” With that cryptic message to the room, he swept out the door.
Jase reached over and clasped her hand in his. When she met his gaze, she felt a connection within her start to pulse.
“Sweetheart, are you okay? You scared the shit out of us.”
Parris looked between him and Rhys and could read the fear they had for her clearly in their expressions. Before leaving, Melaina had told her to trust these men, and Chris had basically just said the same damn thing. Taking a breath, she opened her mouth and took a chance. “I’m dying.”

BLESSED WITH AN ANGEL – GREY RIVER 5
Angel Navarez came to Grey River looking for a better life for her and her son, but she hadn’t counted on having to fight a man looking for revenge to live it.

Noah and Chris Carson both recognized Angel as their Fated mate the moment they met.  But Noah firmly believed that his past actions made it impossible for him to have a future, so he left fully expecting his brother to find happiness with their mate without him.

But that changes when Angel is threatened and Noah drops everything to be there to protect her.  Chris convinces Noah that he’s worthy of their dream, but he can’t fight for their future if he continued to fight his past.  They must work together to earn back Angels trust and convince her that they can be the mates she deserves.

Just when their dream is within their grasp, the past catches up with them and the threat becomes very, very real.

The story…

STORY EXCERPT:
“Oh God, Chris, I don’t know if I can do this,” Angel sobbed and Noah felt a pain settle in his heart at her distress.
“Angel, of course you can,” Noah tried his best to channel the soft and encouraging tone his brother had been using.
“Noah’s right baby, you are one of the strongest women I know! You want to meet your baby boy, I know you do, and I can assure you he wants to meet you too,” Chris moved lower and Noah watched his hands working to help Angel birth her baby, and from the way she was tensing again, Noah knew a contraction had just hit her. He leaned into her, pushing her forward like she wanted and took her weight for her.
“That’s it, Angel! Here he comes, baby, here he comes... I’ve got him!” Chris announced as Angel collapsed, sobbing uncontrollably against Noah. A few seconds later there was a small cry, then a full-on wailing as the baby screamed his displeasure at what had just happened. Chris tore of his shirt, wrapped the baby in it and then immediately moved to place the bundle on his mama.
“Oh, my god, oh my god,” Angel cried as she wrapped her arms around the precious bundle and stared into the wrinkled little face. “Hi! Hi, baby boy, I’m your mama. Oh! You are so beautiful,” she whispered as she pressed her lips to his little forehead. Noah had to agree, he was looking at a strikingly beautiful baby, despite being fresh out of the oven and covered in...stuff.
“Fresh out of the oven,”—Chris’s laughing voice came down their link—“I dare you to say that out loud!”
Noah sent him a small smile and shook his head. He might have only just met Angel, but he knew that she wouldn’t find that description flattering at all. He had registered the sirens in the distance in the final moments of Angel giving birth, but hadn’t paid it any notice. Now he felt relief when he heard another ambulance screech to a halt outside the house.
“The ambulance is here, Angel,” Chris said tenderly, and Noah watched with a heavy heart as Chris leaned over and pressed a kiss to first Angel’s forehead and then the baby’s. “They are going to take you straight up to Labor and Delivery to get you cleaned up and I’ll meet you there, okay?” Angel’s head flew up and whatever Chris saw in her gaze had him reassuring her. “I promise, baby, I will only be a couple of minutes behind you. I need to talk with Noah for a moment and then we’ll come up and see you.” Angel nodded hesitantly and Noah knew she would have rather had Chris go with her.
“Go with her, Chris.” Noah used their link for the first time, in a very long time. “She’s scared and she needs you.”
Chris was quiet as his gaze bore into Noah and he felt almost stripped naked by the intensity of it. “There is nothing I want more than to go with her, but I think you and I need to have a conversation first.”
The next few minutes were filled with people moving quickly and efficiently to get Angel onto a stretcher and then they hustled her to the front of the house. Noah stayed back and out of sight. His head was spinning now that the adrenaline of the moment had faded, and it reminded him that he had recently suffered significant blood loss, still had three bullets in his back and a system full of jax. All in all, it was fucking surprising he was still on his feet.
“Noah,” Chris moved toward him, and Noah couldn’t stop himself from taking a small step back. He saw the pain on Chris’s face and immediately regretted the move, but Noah was worried about whether or not the poison could be absorbed by Chris if he came in contact with his blood. Until he found out for sure, he was keeping his brother safe. Just as he always had and always would.
Chris made a frustrated sound as he ran his hands through his hair, a move Noah knew very well. “Shit, Noah. You’ve been gone for eight months. Eight fucking months with no word from you! You closed yourself off from our bond, and like a dumbass little brother I kept talking to you. Did you even hear me at all?”
“No,” Noah felt acid boiling in his stomach. He had never lied to Chris. Oh, sure he had omitted stuff, but what older brother didn’t? But bald face lied to his face? Never. Not until that very moment.
Chris exhaled hard, as if Noah had actually punched him in the stomach. “Okay then, so you left and severed contact with me. Why?” The pleading in his voice and filling his eyes almost had Noah telling him everything, just to get Chris to feel better.
“I’m just not meant to be here, Chris.” Noah didn’t lie this time. He truly believed he wasn’t worthy of returning to Grey River. Working as an Enforcer, and taking out shifter assholes that break their laws was his penance. “I can’t be here.”
“What about Angel? I know you felt the Quickening, the same as I did.” Chris stepped right up and got in his face and Noah almost smiled. Chris was the healer, not the fighter of the two brothers, but for his mate, he would stand toe-to-toe with a killer, and that was exactly what Noah was. “Are you just going to turn your back on our triad? Everything we hoped for and prayed for growing up is right in fucking front of us for the taking. Are you gonna reach out with me, and grab a hold of her and never fucking let her go?”

Questions for the Author
Q: Every book is special to an author.  What is it about this book that makes it special for you?
A:  Quite simply it’s Noah.  He came to me in the first book of this series Lost Faith and he’s been whispering to me for the past six months.  He needs someone to love and protect, and Angel absolutely is his other half.  Then you add in the fact that he has been lying to his brother, and you get a family dynamic that I just really loved.

Q:  Sometimes things happen when you are writing a series that wasn’t expected at all.  Have you had this happen to you?
A:  Heaps!  I am not a planner.  I am a write-by-the-set-of-your-panties kinda girl.  There have been moments where I will finish up a scene and be like WTF?  I did not see that coming!  Over the next few books, there are answers that start to help explain a few things for my characters, and I didn’t know that the connections ran so deeply.

Q.  Is that why you always include a danger element to your books?
A.  I write what I love to read.  I love books that take you on a journey, but where the characters face a challenge that adds an element of urgency to them and to the book.  As a reader, there is nothing I like more than getting that goose bump, hair rising on the back of my neck feeling as I join the characters within the book I am reading on the journey to solve their mystery.  I want to give that to my readers.

Q.  What are you working on at the moment?
A.  Grey River has so many stories to tell, and I am currently working on book seven of this series. When I sat down to start writing this book, I had a story in mind and had assumed it would be a particular story.  But, I was a little taken a back when I started to write about a female character I had yet encountered.  And I was shocked as hell when she turned out to be the Fated mate of two characters I hadn’t realized even had a story to tell yet!  I am also writing Ryan and Ariana’s story in The Sherriff and his Air Goddess which is book three in my Shifters of Freedom Springs series.  I love the mythological angle of this series!  There are only 2 books after this one in the series so things are definitely heating up for the Elementals and the stakes were never higher!

Q.  Do you have anything to say to your current readers or to those that haven’t yet read you work?
A.  If you have read any of my books, thank you so very much!  It blows my mind that someone has actually read something that I wrote, but gosh I hope you enjoyed it!  Did you?  Please let me know, I find I suffer from a slight case of needy-nelly with my writing.  If you haven’t read my book, but you love erotic romance stories between strong men and an independent woman, where the path to their happily ever after can be a bumpy one, but there is always a happily ever after, and their love and laugher is real on every page, then you’ll find my books right up your alley!

The story…

PG EXCERPT:
“How did you know I was your mate?” Micah asked suddenly, and Casey smiled. She had been wondering when this was going to come up again.
“Well, because of- let’s just say circumstances in my life beyond my control, I have a very strong interest in the super natural.  I have met with, and spoke to a lot of shifter communities and leaders over the years.  I met the Sharman for one of the northern wolf packs who told me I was the mate to a wolf, and that he would come for me when I was in danger. He told me that I would recognize you immediately and would feel the mating bond form and I did.”
Casey smiled shyly as Micah’s eyes softened as he looked at her.  She had left out a few other indications like the fact that she had dreamed about him for years, but if he didn’t remember those dreams then perhaps the Fates had only meant them for her.
“I learnt a lot from each and every person I spoke with, and the fact that for wolf shifters you won’t fully merge with your inner wolf spirit until you actually scent your mate was something I found beautiful.” Casey was quiet for a moment as she struggled to but her thoughts into words.
“That moment when you scent your mate and everything aligns within you, it’s like the coming together of heart, body and soul and it is so beautiful to me. What was it like for you?”
Micah smiled. “It was exactly how my dad described it to me and my brothers.  I scented you and felt this huge swell of power and strength and it dropped me to my knees.  I had to fight my wolf for control for a moment, the merge shook the both of us I think, but I managed to force the change back to human. “
“Can he force you to change form?”
“Before meeting you, there was always the possibility of that.  He’s a strong wolf, and quite stubborn.  They need to be allowed to exercise and take control in order to cede control at other times if that makes sense.  It is a privilege and an honor to have a wolf spirit, and he and I will work as one to protect you from now on.”
“I’m not quite sure what we do now?” she asked after a moment.
“Yeah, you and me both, sweetheart.” Micah cleaned up their breakfast and then moved to sit facing her on the bed. “I wasn’t exactly looking for a mate, Casey.”
Casey felt her heart shudder at a sudden thought. “Oh God, do you have a girlfriend?” Jealousy bloomed through her body with a speed that surprised her.
Micah grinned, the bastard. “No, I don’t, baby. But I do like that jealous streak you have going there. Makes my dick hard.” If he expected her to blush and get all embarrassed because he used the word dick, then he was tripping. And he had never met a woman who wrote erotic romances for a living.
“Well, that’s good to know, and I can assure you that there are a lot of things I can do that will make your dick hard.” She winked at him when his jaw dropped open a little. “What? Did you think I’ve never seen a hard dick before or to that point, never even touched one?” This time it was his eyes that sparked with jealousy, and she liked it too. A lot.
“Yeah, new rule. No more talking about other dicks you’ve seen and certainly none that you’ve touched, deal?” Grinning, she nodded. Then his eyes lowered to her lips. His eyes darkened when she wet her suddenly extremely dry lips. He made a low growling noise that had her creaming herself. Hot damn, he was one hot shifter. His eyes suddenly changed from steel gray to pale blue, telling her that his wolf was near the surface.
He wrapped his hand around the nape of her neck, pulled her into him, and then he just devoured her. She had no other word for it—one minute she was in control of herself and then he simply took over, leaning up and over her bending her to his will. He thrust his tongue into her mouth, gliding it over hers, twining them together, and when she sucked on his tongue, he growled. Then he sucked her bottom lip into his mouth.
Pulling away, she took a moment to get her equilibrium back before she opened her eyes. When she did, she saw him smiling gently at her. When she smiled back, he stroked his fingers over her cheek. “When you get the all clear to leave, would you come home with me?” His tone was hesitant, as if fearing her rejection. Silly wolf, did he not own a mirror?
“I think that would a really good idea.” She watched a smile spread across his face, one that matched her own. Then she reached up, mirrored his move from moments before, and pulled him down for another kiss.

Excerpt R
Casey mewled and Micah felt her start to tremble. Rotating his hand so that his palm almost cupped her, his fingers found the bumpy ridge inside her that was going to blow her mind. As her trembling started to grow, he swirled his tongue around her clit and pulled it into his mouth. Just as she started to convulse, he fucked her hard with his fingers, sliding them high up into her against the sweet spot that would have her coming hard. And come hard she did.
“Fuuuuucccckkkk!” Her scream echoed through his room and he growled as cream gushed from her pussy. She had released so much he had to swallow repeatedly. Fucking ambrosia. If he had his way, he would do this every damn day for the rest of his fucking life! Not leaving her through the intense orgasm, he licked and slowly brought her down from the heights he had driven her too.
He felt her slump forward and he helped her to slide down his body so that she was straddling his lap and her head was buried in his neck. She was breathing hard and little shocks of pleasure still racked her body. Micah had pleasured her well and he felt invincible. He would have enjoyed it more if he wasn’t harder than he had ever been in his life and needing to be buried inside of her more he had needed anything else in his life.
Casey suddenly groaned and pulled back to look at him. He gently drew the long strands of her long dark hair over her shoulders. Damn she made his heart ache. Her green eyes sparkled and her grin was sleepy, satisfied, and contented as hell. “Jesus, Micah, you sure know how to treat a woman!” She leaned forward and sucked his bottom lip into her mouth, nibbling on it. “But I need something more. Fuck me, Micah, please?” She started nibbling on his earlobe and he felt his eyes roll back into his head.
“Christ, Casey! You keep doing that and I’m gonna fuck you here on the floor.” Micah moaned as she bit into the fleshy part of his shoulder. The placement not lost on him. When he eventually claimed her, that would be the spot on her shoulder he’d sink his teeth into and make her his. She surprised the hell out of him then by leveraging herself up so she could grasp his cock in her hand, and she guided him into her body. The warm, wet heat of her pussy fit him like a glove, and just as she was about to take all of him, she swiveled her hips, making him jerk.
“Fuck, baby, you fit me so damn well. Your pussy is soft and wet around my dick.” He felt her pussy ripple around him and he threw his head back with a shout. “Oh yeah, do that again.” She leaned back, gripping his shoulders for leverage, and then ground against his hips while massaging him from the inside. He growled and groaned as she gave him the hottest damn lap dance in history, all while he knelt on the floor of his bedroom.
A sudden thought occurred to him and had him freezing. “Casey baby, not that I wouldn’t love to see you swollen with my child, but are you on birth control?”
She gave him a smile as she bit her lip, nodded, and then started moving harder against him. Sooner than he would have liked, she had him hovering near madness, and he knew his eyes would be flashing blue. Growling, he lifted up to kneel and Casey gasped in his ear as she wrapped her long sleek legs around his waist and held on. He knew he wouldn’t be able to make it up onto the bed, so he simply rolled and laid her down on the bedroom rug, still buried balls deep inside her. He pulled her legs higher up his hips, grabbed her arms, and put them up over her head with her wrists clasped in one of his hands.
He breathed deep, taking the smell of their arousal and the earthy smell of sex into his lungs. He locked gazes with her and then slammed his hips into her, making her body bounce and her eyes widen. “Can you handle it, baby?” he asked, holding himself back with all the strength he had in his body. His muscles were locked so damn tight he thought they might actually snap. If she said she needed slow, he didn’t know what the hell he would do.
Then she gave him a smile so sexy, so damn wicked he cursed. “Handle it? Baby, I can handle anything you can dish out, and more. Now, fuck me hard! Take me like you mean it.” And that was it. The tight hold he had on his control snapped and he started to slam his hips into hers, driving pleasure into every cell of his body as she lifted her hips to meet every one of his thrusts.

Five questions for the author
Q: What was the inspiration for this series?
A:  I love writing about shifters, and alphas.  The complexity to their personalities and the attitudes you can create with them are really intriguing.  You add into strong heroines who have the ability to manipulate the natural elements and have to solve a prophecy in order to save the world and you have the type of book I love to read and write.

Q:  Was if fun including little shout outs to New Zealand in this book?
A: Definitely.  I am very proud to be from New Zealand and we have such a rich and diverse culture that being able to plant little kiwi-isms and shout outs to New Zealand is so much fun.  Casey’s sister Ariana, who we learn a little bit about in this book, is from New Zealand and is of Maori heritage, so I am looking forward to sharing more aspects of this culture with you all in the following books of this series.

Q.  Does each part of the prophecy give us a little insight into what the other elementals might face and a short hint into the stories?
A.  Hmmmm, how to answer this question.  Yes they do, but not entirely.  Each of the Elementals need to complete their individual prophecy journey to see what role they play in freeing Olwen.  But each one also has a very personal journey that needs to be completed at the same time.  There will be tears, blood shed and a whole heap of having to lend a hand to help a friend in need and that is a part of this series that I love writing.

Q.  What are you working on at the moment?
A.  Grey River has so many stories to tell, and I am currently working on Xanthe’s story.  Xanthe has a lot going on in her life at the moment and when her past crashes into her present… well, let’s just say shit gets real!!  I am also working on book three of this series and boy oh boy!  There are some scenes in this book that I am finding very hard to write, characters I love in so much danger makes Maia a very nervous author!

Q.  Do you have anything to say to your current readers or to those that haven’t yet read you work?
A.  Thank you to all my readers who are enjoying the Grey River series.  I do hope you will give the Shifters of Freedom Springs a try.  All of the characters are looking forward to taking you on their journey to save the world and hope you’ll go along for the ride.  It is always a treat for me to hear from my readers so please reach out with a question or a query if you would like and I look forward to sharing more stories with you!
